Single Hand Toys

We approached the Single Hand Cerebral Palsy toys below from the perspective of either something we could use to encourage the use of our daughters affected hand or arm by herself or with help, or toys that could be played with using just her unaffected hand. There is a range of toys that cater to both gross and fine motor movements.

Initially we focused on toys that could be stacked and knocked over, banged or pushed to make a sound/ with her affected arm with gross motor movements, while she gained some fine motor function. We then moved to thinner/smaller toys that she could reach for and grab with low resistance such as Spike the Hedgehog, or items off a table like Ooshies. Also things like crayons and textas with longer lids she could grasp and open on a larger surface were a big hit

A number of the toys shown here may be bi-manual toys also, but we adapted the use of them by either assisting with holding of items while she grabbed the other part, placing items in the affected hand to help with grasp, or only using part of the toy depending on the goal.
