Mega BLOKS

Our Mega Bloks have been a staple in our toy library for years now, and their versatility mean we use them for CP therapy and non therapy play.

Initially when our daughter had limited grip/open hand ability we’d place a single single block in her hand manually and get her to bang them together, or building a small tower and encouraging gross motor movement with the arm to knock them down, or building some and needing some gross motor to hold them down while she pulled them apart.

More recently with her changes in tone meaning she can open her hand a bit more, we’ve found these are a great size for her to get her hand over and big enough to grasp them and lift them up. We’ve been grabbing a row of the square 1 bump blocks and hiding either Ooshies under them, or M&M minis under some. She has to reach and grasp the block, lift it up and drop it in a basket (obviously change depending on abilities). We’ve had a few bags over the years so do 30-40 of them to get some repetition in and it’s a pretty short and sharp session which is good.

The smaller bags are good to start but if you want to use them for single block grasping I’d recommend atleast the 80 or even 150 piece bags to get a decent amount of single blocks. You can get a smaller bag but 80 is the minimum I’d recommend.

Depending on your child’s grasp or opening function they are a bigger size so smaller kids may struggle to get a tight hand over the block for example. Great toy just to have though and really affordable.
