Nene Toys Feed the Baby Chick Woodpecker
Nene Toys Feed the Baby Chick Woodpecker is a fine motor skills toy that features a wooden woodpecker that kids can use to “feed” the baby chick by pecking at the wooden “worms” on the tree trunk, promoting hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills development.
Recommended for kids ages 2 and up.
How WE used it/What we likedWe LOVED this Woodpecker toy, and it had a starring position in our fine motor work from early on. The woodpecker was a good size that our daughter was able to keep grip of it, even with limited fine motor skills, which then helped us work on gross motor through her shoulder, arm and hand position. We would get her to use the woodpecker to get them all out, use her non affected hand to remove them (the worms have magnets), and then once finished, pick them up off the table and “feed the chick”. We generally used it laying down on the table as our daughter had limited wrist/supination use so this ensured she still got successful attempts
Look out forIf your child has some supination function they should be able to use it standing up, otherwise we recommend laying it on a flat surface.
The handle surface is rather smooth so we found that wrapping some cohesive bandage around it helped our daughter maintain her grip.
